WANG Zhiheng, a Chinese student at École des Ponts ParisTech

Wang Zhiheng obtained first a bachelor degree at Nanjing University of Science and Technology and has joined Ecole des Ponts ParisTech in September 2022.

Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Wang Zhiheng, I’m currently pursuing my engineering diploma at École des Ponts ParisTech, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science.

What do you prefer at your school?

What I appreciate most about the school is the high quality of teaching content. The faculty members are professionals who are currently employed by leading French companies. They not only bring a wealth of practical experience to the classroom but also integrate the latest technological advancements and industry trends into their teaching. Additionally, I am deeply satisfied with the international environment that the school offers. Each year, about 25-30% of the incoming students are international students, creating a diverse, multicultural setting. This environment promotes not only mutual learning and exchange but also helps us overcome cultural barriers and stereotypes, thereby deepening our understanding of various cultures.

How does your school help you towards the job market?

From our very first semester, the school offers various trainings in terms of career planning. The most memorable for me was the full-day "Preparing for Your 2nd Year Internship" workshop. During this day, some experienced instructors came to provide us with professional career guidance and shared us with some essential tips for interviewing. Besides that, the school regularly organizes career fairs and industry forums, inviting renowned French companies to participate and interact with students after class.

Tell us about one of your internship experience.

I recently completed a six-month internship at the French National Railway Company (SNCF), where my primary task was to study the buckling phenomena of railway systems under high temperatures. This enriching experience allowed me to genuinely experience the work environment within a big French company, and it helped me enhance my professional skills and teamwork capabilities. It also allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge directly to real-world problems.

Describe your school in three words.

International, dynamic, high-level teaching

What’s the most important thing you have learned by studying abroad?

For me, the most valuable part of studying abroad has been the deep interactions with classmates from different cultural backgrounds, which has allowed me to understand different cultures and make friends from all over the world.
