Can you introduce yourself ?

My name is Adonis, I'm a Brazilian alumnus of École des Ponts ParisTech, where I graduated from a Double Degree program in 2013.

Could you introduce your current position and company ? Could you explain briefly what you do in your current position ?

I’m a Business Analytics Manager at Nubank, a Brazilian digital bank that is one of the biggest startups in the world and has already freed more than 35 million customers in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia from bureaucracy and helped them regain control of their financial lives. At Nubank, we take proud in having a fanatical userbase and a very strong and diverse team from more than 30 nationalities, with offices in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Bogotá and Mexico City, other than our São Paulo headquarters.

As a BA Manager, I lead an analytics team responsible for gathering, treating and interpreting data in order to make the best decisions for our customers and for the business. We do so based on data science models, hypothesis tests, NPV models and other types of framework I had seen at engineering school.

Why did you choose to study in a ParisTech school to become an engineer?

My journey as an engineer began at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, where I studied Industrial Engineering. As I discovered all the double degree programs that existed, , I absolutely wanted to enroll – and the ParisTech Écoles were the best, most prestigious partners we had at USP.

What does being a ParisTech engineer mean for you? What did you like during your studies at Ecole des Ponts ParisTech ?

What I loved the most about studying at Ponts ParisTech was the multiculturalism, the openness, the excellence of the formation and the multiple opportunities. At Ponts et Chaussées, we had students from the best Prépas and Universities, schools of engineering around the world, other ParisTech schools, architects, normaliens, polytechnicians, etc. The labs, design programs and projects with French companies added to this scenario of technical excellence.

Besides supply chain management techniques, financial and mathematical modelling, what I learned the most was the ability to learn and adapt. In this everchanging world, it's probably the most important ability to have! Being an international student at ParisTech forces you to become good at adapting quickly, as you discover everything from French gastronomy to different ways of teaching, from making friends in different languages to enjoying the French culture.

Could you define in 3 words what is a ParisTech engineer ?

Polyvalent, competent and human. That makes for a good fit in any team!

What would you say to an international student who hesitates to come to a ParisTech school ?

If you love engineering, come study at ParisTech! We have centuries of tradition in state-of-the-art research & technology and world-class labs, teachers and students.

If you're not sure yet of what career to pursue, come to ParisTech too! We have a lot to offer in different domains, from data science to management, and you will certainly have some of the most interesting years of your life.
